Referencing the matter of an eye-witness basis to the Gospel accounts, a very scholarly book came out in 2006: "Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels As Eyewitness Testimony," by Richard Bauckham, Eerdmans Press. Goes rather deep into early historic testimonies from church fathers as well as the ways in which oral traditions retain accuracy in oral cultures. Brings into question much of the often speculative 20th century writings about the subject. cf. also Ross Douthat's op ed in the April 6 New York Times.

Beautifully written, thanks. Doubt is indeed a bar to spiritual endeavor.

Love the quote "Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness."
